Christmas at Community Hub
December was a busy time for our Friday Community Hub….
Volunteers at the Open Lunch Café served more than 240 meals over the four Fridays leading up to Christmas. This culminated in a three course Christmas dinner served to 85 people on the Friday before Christmas.
We are grateful to local supermarkets, including Sainsburys, Co-Op, Tescos and Asda for donations made toward the Christmas dinner. We would also like to say a particular thank you to managers from Co-Op stores in the local area, who attended on the day, to help prepare and serve the food.
As part of our Christmas celebrations, volunteers also prepared 100 hampers of Christmas food and treats, which were given to those attending the Community Hub, as well as to others in need in the local community.
We were able to provide these hampers as a result of a grant we received from the D&J Lloyd Community First Fund, a charitable fund managed by Cambridgeshire Community Foundation.
In addition to these hampers, Cambridge City Foodbank very generously provided us with a large number of bags of other Christmas food and essentials. These were distributed to those in need over the Christmas period.
